Argentina is an American country with a past connection with Europe. Europeans first arrived to the region around 1502. In 1536 the settlement of Buenos Aires was founded by Pedro de Mendoza. For 200 years they would try to settle the region. The Argentine territory was ruled by the Spanish Empire, because of the gold and silver mines. Argentina fought for independence from 1810 to 1818 and later experienced a civil war until 1861. At this time Buenos Aires became the capital.
The culture of the country has been heavily influenced by large amounts of European immigration. Mostly Spanish, Italian, and French, but many cultures have since immigrated to the country to make it unique and diverse. A great example and fun fact is that Argentina holds one of the largest Jewish populations in South America. The south of the country has also been influenced by immigrants of Germany.
This blending of European cultures and the Indigenous cultures has created many interesting and famous cultural elements of this unique country. When in Argentina common examples are ''Mate'' a type of drink similar to tea and the famous dance ''The Tango''. There are many additional examples, but these two really reflect the blending of European, African, and Indigenous cultures to make a great culture.
